Come this Sunday in the Cinderella County of Essequibo, seven-time Powerboat champion Driver, Bartica’s Dave Scott will be seeking to regain the Champion Driver accolade when the 19th edition of the annual Lake Mainstay Regatta comes off.
Scott, who missed the cut in 2018 after he encountered challenges with his engine, has disclosed that he has since rectified that situation and will have no such challenges as he has a brand new machine he would be unleashing against his rivals.
At last year’s event, Neil Gonsalves from the Pomeroon area took the Champion Racer accolade and would be back again this year to try and keep same but would have to contend with Scott who had won the trophy for seven successive years except past year.
It has been disclosed that over 3-million dollars would be up for grabs at the event which is being hosted by Lake Mainstay in association with the Department of Tourism. Scott and Gonsalves would be the leading contenders in the 200HP races while there would also be events for competitors in the 15HP, 40HP and 90HP categories that is open for both male and female Captains.
There would also be canoe races over a distance of 200m as well as 200m races for swimmers. Racing time is set for 11:00hrs.
