It was observed that in the Official Gazette 115/2019 dated July 27, 2019 that a Notice, Trade Unions, was published and included a list of Trade Unions and other entities that were arrears in filing their Annual Returns. The Guyana Public Service Union was listed in the schedule as not filing Annual Returns for a number of years. The Union views this information as erroneous and misleading and is requesting that the information be retracted immediately.
The Guyana Public Service Union in keeping with the Trade Union Act Chapter 98:03 submitted its Annual Returns annually to the Registrar of Trade Unions, which were all certified as being received by the Registrar of Trade Unions, copies of which are in possession of the Union. The last Annual Return was filed and submitted in 2018.
The Union is very concerned that such erroneous and misleading information was submitted to be published in the Official Gazette, a national source of information, which information ought to be authentic and clearly brings into question the credibility of the information being published in the Official Gazette. This inaccurate information was also published in the Kaieteur News Edition of July 28, 2019.
The GPSU wrote on July 30, 2019, to the Registrar of Trade Unions about the inaccuracy of the information published and requested that she retracts the fabricated communication from the Official Gazette and that a public apology be made to the Union since it was also published in the media.
Yours sincerely,
Dawn Gardener
