Durban Quarries Incorporated has come under fire once again from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, after yet another video surfaced of a large excavator owned by the company being driven on the East Coast Demerara Public Road.
In a statement on its Facebook page, the Ministry said “The Durban Quarries Company for the third time has destroyed the section of road in front of their business on the East Coast of Demerara by allowing their excavator to traverse directly onto the newly constructed road.”
In February last, Kaieteur News reported that the Ministry had condemned the same action by the company, when a video surfaced of a 320C Hydraulic Excavator moving along the newly-paved surface.
The machines are designed to traverse rough terrain; they tend to cause damage to roadways.
The Ministry said that it views this as a blatantly disrespectful act in relation to the use of the paved section of the road, and the government’s efforts to revitalise the country’s infrastructure.
When this publication reached out to the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Krest Cummings, in February, she had said that there have been no decisions on action to be taken against the driver, because an investigation was still ongoing.
The statement yesterday said that the Ministry is working with the Guyana Police Force to ensure the offenders are prosecuted.
