The 4-Horse Man Promotion Group successfully held their Port Mourant Centenary Horserace meet at the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC), Big Yard, Corentyne, Berbice.
The event which was organised in collaboration with the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club (RCMTC) was held on Thursday, Emancipation Day.
At the end of the day it was Cherish Me of the McWatt Stable with Colin Ross in the saddle that did the trick as it sprinted away from the field to the take the feature 1300M race for animals classified 3 years old Guyana-bred with a winning purse of $300,000 and Banks DIH Trophy at stake. The Republican, Awesome Banner and TP 360 rounded out the money.
Silver and Things of the Cheffoon Stable with the wily Ross in the stirrups shone brightly to take the Open 1300M race and the $220,000 winners money and trophy from Not this Time, Red Rocket and Kentucky Woman.
Justify The Heat ridden by Kevin Paul burnt up the field as it won the two-year-old Guyana-bred 1000M event and $220,000 and a trophy from Sunday Silence, Joyful Love and Body Guard.Colin Ross was again in winners’ row as he piloted Song Bird of the Hope Stable to victory in the event for animals classified J, K2 and lower. The winner received $180,000 and trophy. The others that placed were Perfection, The Republican and Cherish Me.
The L class open race saw Delilah with Randolph Richmond on its back winning from Touch De Cash, The Rock and Flo Joe.
The undocumented two year old Guyana Bred animals had their opportunity to perform with Ross riding King to the throne ahead of Uprising Star, Flash The Cash and Princess Emma.
The Heat with Kevin Paul won the L1 and lower race from Touch the Cash, Delilah and Stolen Diamond.
The racetrack was in excellent shape and all seven races were held with over $5M in cash and trophies and other incentives given out.
The champion jockey on show was Colin Ross. He and other outstanding performers received incentives from the organisers.
Apart for being staged in the Centenary anniversary of the PMTC the event was also held in memory of the achievements of the late Attorney at Law and Senior Counsel, Marcel Crawford for the enormous amount of work he did at the PMTC during his lifetime.
Over 50 horses took part in the day’s activity which was incident free.
