The official launching of the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club (ACCCC) one-day second Division 10/10 competition set for this Sunday was held on Tuesday last at the Albion Community Development Center (ACDC), Albion, Corentyne, Berbice.
The ceremony saw members of the other participating teams and sponsors among others in attendance. It was revealed that the tournament will feature eight (8) teams and take place at the Albion Community Center.
The clubs down to participate are Fyrish, Chesney, Jai Hind, Tamarind Root, Belvedere United, Hamid X1, Albion Community Centre and the Kendall’s Union Sports Club.
The winning team will take home $50,000 and a trophy while the runner-up will receive $30,000 and a trophy. There will also be rewards for outstanding individual players. Trophies will be presented to the batsman with the most runs and the bowler with the most wickets in the tournament.
The fixtures-Round 1: Tamarind Root oppose Kendall’s Union, Round 2: Chesney takes on Albion, Round 3: Fyrish oppose Belvedere United and Round 4: Hamid XI matches skills against Jai Hind.
Semifinals – Winner of Round 1 vs Winner of Round 4; Winner of Round 2 vs Winner of Round 3. The grand final will be played under lights between the respective semifinal winners. According to a release from the club, their primary purpose is to develop and promote the game of cricket for the benefits of its members and citizens of Guyana as a whole.
The Albion Community Centre Cricket Club has a well-organized, disciplined and vigorous training programme for its members. Training is conducted by international and national players and qualified guest Coaches.
The club provides training materials, uniforms and gear when they are participating in competitions and tournaments. Apart from cricket and physical development, members are taught the laws of the game, public speaking, social graces and etiquette and development of high self-esteem, among other areas. Membership is open persons over the age of eight (8) years.
