Please advise us, Director of Sport and/or management of the National Racquet Centre
DEAR EDITOR,
Please permit space for me to ask a few questions of the Director of Sport and the management of the National Racquet Centre.
It is no secret that there’s a scarcity of public tennis courts in Guyana, despite pleas for years. Within recent months, the National Racquet Centre courts – one of two public courts in Georgetown – have been used to host fetes. When this venue is rented out, players, including my child who’s training for an overseas tournament right now, are inconvenienced a great lot.
There are several venues around Georgetown which are more suitable for frolic. There’s D’Urban Park, the Cultural Centre tarmac, the National Park tarmac and the list goes on. When these events are held, players are put out of use of the venue for three days. It takes the previous day to set up and the day after to dismantle.
Could the management of the National Racquet Centre and Director of Sport, please advise us where the two hundred-plus players who train at this facility are expected to play. Please advise us who’s reimbursing parents for loss of revenue when these days are missed and we still have to pay the month’s fees regardless. Please advise the underprivileged players who can’t afford private courts’ fees, where they are expected to train. We are humbly awaiting your advice.
