Guyana Jaguars skipper Leon Johnson said he is pleased with the Cricket West Indies Level two coaching course which concluded on Monday last the Guyana National Stadium.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport following the course, Johnson, the only Captain to win the Professional Cricket League Regional four-day tournament so far with five titles under his belt, said the course was very formative and augurs well for the development of the game in Guyana and the Caribbean.
“I have played a lot of cricket and been exposed to different coaches and different coaching styles so having done this new approach ‘athlete centre’ kind of open my eyes to new techniques in coaching. I think some of the things I have learnt here, I can take forward in my development as a player as well, especially the psychological part of the sessions.”
27 coaches took the course and Johnson was positive that the entire country will benefit. “There were people here from all across Guyana, so I think everybody who have left here have learned something new and it shows that the entire country will benefit.”
Apart from Johnson, other national players took the course including Veerasammy Permaul, Steven Jacobs, Akshaya Persaud, Anthony Adams and Vishaul Singh.
“It’s great to see some of the national players done the course and the level one, more of us are now qualified in a certain field and I am sure, like me, they will take some of the stuff they would have learnt here to develop their game, so this makes us stronger as well,” said Johnson.
