Ganesh Parts and General under their BKT Tyres of Robb Street and KSM Investments Inc. of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara have thrown their support behind the Kennard Memorial Turf Club for the staging of the Post Emancipation Day horse race meet which is set for Sunday at the club’s Bush Lot Corentyne venue.

Ron Mohammed sales representative of Ganesh’s Parts and General Store handed over the complete package for the E and Lower race to Cecil Kennard, the Honorary President of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club, yesterday. The entity’s proprietor Roop Persaud said they are happy to be associated with the Kennard Memorial Turf Club again.
He added that time the company is sponsoring under the BKT Tyres, which according to him, is a quality agricultural and off-road product.
Meanwhile, Khaimwattie Panchu KSM Investments Inc.,Director said moments before presenting the first prizes and winning trophy for the L-Non Winner, that the company is pleased to be on board yet again and pledged their continued support.
Kennard said he is pleased with the support he has received from the business entities over the years, stating that sponsorship is absolutely essential for the successful staging of any sporting event.
“Those of us who are involved in the administration of sport, be it cricket or horse racing, we need sponsorship to ensure our events are successful,” Kennard noted. He thanked both businesses for their support. The races will be run under the Rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority and over 60 horses have been entered for the meet, and the track is in fine condition, despite some rain over the past few days.
The activity has attracted some of the country’s top thoroughbreds to compete for cash prizes and trophies from 12:00hrs.
This meet has been one of the country’s traditions over the years and this year’s event is deemed one of the biggest with over $4M in prizes up for grabs; seven races are carded for the day with the feature being E and Lower one-mile event for $700,000 prize for the winner.
Among other races carded on the provisional programme are L class non-winners for $120,000, J and K Lower for $180,000, the L non-winners for $140,000, the Two-year-old Guyana-bred for a top prize of $200,000, and L Open for a purse $160,000.
