On Sunday last, Head of the IKD, 9th Dan Shuseki Shihan Frank Woon-A-Tai assisted by Amir Khouri 7th Dan and Roger Peroune, 4th Dan, conducted another successful round of Karate Grading Examinations at the YMCA, Thomas Lands where some 65 students participated.
According to a Press Release from the Association Do Shotokan Karate – Guyana, an enjoyable day was had by the parents as well as the students. The first half saw White to Blue belts being examined followed by Purple to Dan levels with five (5) students taking the Shodan test. Overall, excellent performances by the examinees brought them success.

ASK-G has extended congratulations to all the Students who were successful as well as Instructors, Roger Peroune, Malcolm Francis, Keith Beaton, Patrick Gurahoo and Wanda Agdomar of the YMCA; Clinton Moriah (New Amsterdam), Hazrat Ali (Albion & Blairmont), Parmeshwar Persaud (Canaan) and Mahadeo Ramotar (GFK) for their commitment to the development of Karate and the Karatekas.
Meanwhile, Shuseki Shihan Frank Woon-a-Tai would be in the country for three months and will be teaching on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s at the Guyana Karate College, while on Tuesday’s and Thursdays he would be at the YMCA.
These sessions are in preparation for the upcoming IKD Caribbean Karate Championships scheduled for August 23-25 next at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. While students would be targeted, training for Judges and Instructors would also be done.
Karate is not just kicking and punching, it is much more detailed and repeated courses are a prerequisite for instructors. Without these training courses the IKD Instructors will not be adequately trained to teach Shotokan Karate to the people.
