DEAR EDITOR,
Jagdeo’s insistence on an early date for election is somewhat puzzling. For someone who is screaming at the top of his lungs about the need for the coalition observing the rule of law on the one hand, while quite willing to contest an election with an obviously flawed voters’ list is troubling.
Guyana is blessed or cursed, depending on how one looks at it with a majority or near majority young citizenry many of voting age not reflected on the current voter’s list. Is Jagdeo willing to disenfranchise these citizens in his frantic rush to power? You cannot have your Black pudding and eat it too.
Maybe you know something the rest of us don’t, such as a guarantee win at the next election. Jadgeo, your slip is showing, it is obviously and painfully clear that your only concern is to recapture power at possibly any cost.
This is dangerous for the future of our country. A selfish and myopic approach to management of Guyana is a prescription for disaster.
Despite the 23 years of PPP rule which only produced a brand new cadre of super rich elites at the expense of both Indian and African Guyanese left to scrounge at the bottom of the economic ladder, our country at this juncture cannot be administered without the PPP involvement, in short a Government of National Unity reflecting both major parties and others.
The PNC or the PPP cannot on their own or in total control or manage Guyana, the record speaks for itself. Guyana cannot afford any more of the blatant corruption or the overreacting heavy hand of administrative mismanagement, past or present. Let us begin with a clean slate starting with a sanitized voters’ list.
Jadgeo’s only goal, it is presumed, is to be the power behind the so called President
Respectfully,
Claudeston G. Massiah
