Close wins highlight latest round of Guinness Street Football in Georgetown
Close wins were the order of play when the latest round of the Georgetown Leg of the ‘Guinness Greatest of the Street’ football tournament was played at the National Cultural Center Tarmac on Friday night. However, perennial favourites, Sparta Boss, didn’t disappoint and they saved the best for last with a sound 6-1 thrashing of Alexander Village in the feature game of the night.
The action was competitive on Friday last as is expected in the Banks DIH Guinness branded tournaments.
And, apart from Leopold’s Street 3-1 win over Albouystown A, all the other matches either finished 1-0 or were decided by kicks from the penalty mark.
The winners of the Georgetown Championship will walk away with a trophy and $500,000 while runners-up will pocket place $300,000 with the third place copping $200,000.
Fourth place finishers will find themselves $100,000 richer while the contestants in the ‘Plate’ section will have an opportunity to win a prize equal to the same amount.
