Residents of St. Cuthbert’s Mission are now better equipped to solve issues within the community.
During a one-day workshop hosted by the Ministry of the Presidency’s Department of Social Cohesion, the participants were exposed to conflict resolution and consensus-building methods aimed at improving their communication skills and assisting in the establishment of a conflict resolution framework.
Minister of Social Cohesion, Dr. George Norton, said that St. Cuthbert’s Mission has developed but there are still some areas that require improvement. Therefore, the department has returned to offer direction and remind the residents of the importance of crafting their Village Improvement Project (VIP).
“Sometimes we know what the problem is and we know what is causing the problem but you may need guidance…We are prepared to offer you that guidance and that is why we have returned because we want to assist in the continued development of the community,” Minister Norton said.
He encouraged all participants to be open-minded and respectful to the contributions made by others as it will assist in the community’s development. The minister also commended the involvement of the young people who have begun to take up the leadership mantle.
Toshao Beverly Clenkian told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that she welcomed the workshop as it helped the residents to face and most importantly resolve issues in the community. Clenkian expressed the hope that similar interventions are held in the village in the future.
The minister announced that a music teacher will be deployed to St Cuthbert’s on August 1 to host a workshop. Residents were urged to take advantage of the opportunity. (DPI)
