Residents of Tuschen Housing Scheme are appalled at the current state of the play ground in the area.
For almost two years the ground has been in a deplorable state and residents said that this has become a nuisance for them.
Kaieteur Sport was made to understand that efforts were made to upgrade the facility sometime back, whereby the fence was erected and the ground was ploughed, but the upgrading of the ground was not fully completed. No work was done since, and the youths who play football and cricket there had to make much of the atrocious facility which is a threat to their safety.
One resident said an excavator is currently doing some work on the trenches in the scheme which will help with the drainage there, but they are also concerned about the ground which can be of tremendous benefit to the youths. It was understood that residents, not only from Tuschen, but nearby villages would often converge at the venue for picnic and other activities on Easter and other holidays, but due to the state of the ground, they are being forced to go elsewhere; this also put a halt to cricket and football there, the two main sporting activities in the area. Residents are appealing to the relevant authorities of the RDC to have this ground upgraded so that it can help to keep the youths meaningfully occupied.
It was understood that the ground has not yet been handed over to the NDC, while the REO of Region three was unavailable at the time to comment on this issue.
