Dear Sports Editor,
Permit me space in your newspaper to respond to the article “Jefford Track and Field X launched” date 2019-07-09. I am somehow bemused at this caption which carries a photograph of Mr. Christopher Jones the Director of Sport and others who was an avid supporter of the Boyce/Jefford Track and Field Classic
for the past four years inclusive of 2018.
The Boyce/Jefford Track and Field Classic would have been celebrating its tenth anniversary this year if there wasn’t any split in partnership.
I was pleasantly surprised that despite advice and warning Mr. Jefford was bold enough to publicize that the Jefford Track and Field Classic is celebrating its tenth year when in fact this is the first Jefford track meet. My question for Mr. Jefford is “Where and when were the previous nine Jefford Track and Field Classics Held?” I
am compelled to seek legal redress in a court of law since the logo (with the name Boyce Missing), pictures, backdrop and the previous years of the Boyce/Jefford Track and Field Classic were used to promote the Jefford Track and Field Classic. This I found to be tantamount to disrespect to me since I was the backbone of the
Boyce/Jefford Track and Field Classic, which was renamed from President/Jefford Track and Field Classic after losing the Presidency of the Athletics Association of Guyana in 2013. Athletes, Spectators, Sponsors and sports administrators can attest to this.
I wish to let the athletes, track and field lovers and supporters know that I have no intention of causing disharmony within the sport but will not sit in silence and allow Mr. Jefford to’ enjoy the benefit and glory derived from the success of the Boyce/Jefford Track and Field Classic.
Yours towards the Development of Sport,
Colin Boyce
Former National Sprinter
Former President AAG
Former Chairman Boyce/Jefford Track and Field Classic
