In its’ 10th year, the Jefford Track & Field Classic (formerly Boyce/Jefford) will remain in the mining town of Linden as was the case in the previous years and will run off on August 11th at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground.
Instead of the top club receiving the grand cash prize as was the case in the previous editions, over $2million will be up for grabs for the athletes instead. The winners, both male and female, of each race will pocket $40,000 at the event that will see the cream-of-the-crop of the local and overseas based athletes, competing.
To this end, De Sinco Limited, located on Sheriff Street, through their Swiss Brand, has pounced on the opportunity to support the usually well subscribed Athletics Meet in an effort to give back to the community.
The import company will be sponsoring the men’s 5000m, women’s 3000m and the master’s male and female 60m dash. In addition, the respective winners in the boys’ and girls’ 150m dash will receive a hamper of Swiss Products including their new line of ‘Swiss Peanut Butter’ and pasta products.
Desinco Limited has injected a total of $200,000 into the Jefford Track & Field Classic X. Promoter, Edison Jefford, thanked the company’s Director, Aisha D’Abreu for her company’s support.
Meanwhile, D’Abreu posited that, “This is the first time Swiss has partnered with the event. We wish all the participants well and we will have some representatives up there to cheer them to the finish line.”
This athletics event has hosted several of the region’s most popular athletes in Guyana since 2010, including Aliann Pompey competing for the first time in Guyana at the Second Edition in 2011 and Marian Burnett a year later. Every notable Guyanese athlete has competed at the Classic with most holding meet records, including Brenessa Thompson and Winston George.
The full list of sponsors reads: Ansa McAl under their Heineken, Magnum Tonic Wine, Rush Energy Drink, Lucozade and ICool Water brand, the National Sports Commission, De Sinco Limited under their Swiss Brand, Antarctic Maintenance and Repairs, YK Investments Pawn Shop, Jude Bike Shop and Power Producers Distributors Inc.
