The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) on Sunday June 23rd last hosted their 2nd Annual Award Ceremony at the Port Mourant Cricket Ground which has been deemed a huge success with 32 awards presented to the top cricketers, coaches and clubs across the Ancient County.
The event also featured the honouring of over 65 officials, umpires and sponsors along while cricket bats were presented to Isaih Thorne and Rampersaud Ramnauth, the two Berbicians selected to tour England with the West Indies Under-15 Team.
The BCB also recognized their winning Inter County teams while a total of 13 clubs received $200,000 worth of cricket balls and raincoats. Also taking place was the Upper Corentyne Awards Ceremony.
President Hilbert Foster who spearheaded the events along with Public Relations Officer, Simon Naidu stated that the day’s events were tagged at $600,000. Foster expressed gratitude to the main sponsor, Brian Ramphal for his massive investment into Berbice cricket.
Ramphal, Foster stated was one of the main reasons why the last two years of the game in Berbice has been so successful, hailing the overseas based Guyanese as a hero. The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS, over the last 17 months has also been a major supporter of Berbice cricket, investing millions of its own funds to assist the BCB to administer the sport.
Some of the club’s assistance came in the form of support for the Awards, total sponsorship of the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association Awards Ceremony and the cost of the donated balls and raincoats.
The Board would also like to acknowledge the contribution of Guysuco in allowing the uses of the venue, providing security and preparation of the centre. Singled out for special mention were Guysuco Officials, Vemen Walter, Orvin Mangru, Roger Mc Donald, Moses Indardat and Teka Pooran.
Companies and individuals coming in for praise were Guyana Beverage Company, Demerara Distillers Limited, Vickram Suebarran, Apex Inssurance, Bissoondyal Singh, The Trophy Stall, Republic Bank, Mursalene Bacchus, A. Ally & Sons, Berbice Chamber of Commerce & Development Association, Berbice River Bridge, Region Democratic Council, Region 6, David Armogan, Dennis Deroop, Bakewell, Metro Office and Computer Supplies, Port Mourant Cricket Club and Albion Community Centre Cricket Club.
Management of the BCB said it is recommitting to the continued development of the sport and is looking forward to working with all stakeholders in the future.
