A teen that was charged for allegedly stabbing one of his schoolmates at a rum shop was yesterday remanded to the
Juvenile Detention Centre after he appeared in court.
The accused appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty. He was not required to plea to the indictable charge, which read that on June 27, 2019 at Flats, Matthews Ridge, he murdered Joseph Bunbury.
According to reports, the now dead teen and his cousin were at a rum shop in Matthew’s Ridge imbibing alcohol when they were approached by the accused. An argument ensued between the accused and the teen, which lead to a fight.
When Bunbury’s cousin tried to intervene he was attacked by the accused, who allegedly had a knife in his hand and dealt him a stab to his hands leaving him with injuries.
The accused then turned his attention back to Bunbury and it was then that he allegedly dealt him several stabs to his chest and hand. Bunbury then collapsed and the accused made good his escape.
The teen was rushed to the Matthew’s Ridge Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police then arrested the accused and charged him for the murder of his 14-year-old peer. He also reportedly led police to the murder weapon.
The matter was transferred to Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan’s court. The next hearing will be today.
