A police constable is now in the custody of the Guyana Police Force after he collided with a pedestrian who later died while receiving treatment. The incident took place early yesterday morning along the Tuschen Public Road, East Bank Essequibo.
Reports revealed that the accident occurred shortly after midnight. The 25-year-old police constable who hails from Blue Berry Hill, Wismar, Linden, was the driver of motorcar PNN 7853.
The pedestrian, was Mohamed Azeez, of 63 Ocean Garden, Meten-Meer-Zorg. Further reports indicate that the police constable was proceeding west along the southern carriageway. He alleged that the pedestrian suddenly dashed across the road in front of his vehicle.
The pedestrian allegedly fell onto the road in an unconscious state. He was picked up and rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital. It was there that the man succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
The body of the pedestrian was then taken to the Ezekiel’s Funeral Home where it is awaiting a post mortem examination.
The driver of the motorcar was taken into police custody where he was tested for alcohol. However, nothing was detected in his system. He remains in police custody assisting with the investigation.
