Police ranks from the West Coast Berbice, led by Superintendant Mahendra Singh, between 12:30 pm and 5:30 pm Friday discovered what appeared to be a prohibited substance strewn about a street in the vicinity of a car.
According to information gathered, police observed two vehicles (cars) with the drivers acting in a suspicious manner. The men in an attempt to evade the police roadblock at Weldaad drove through a back street in the village but it appeared that they dumped the prohibited substance on the road, abandoned one of the cars and escaped.
The substance was taken back to the Weldaad Police Station where it was examined and weighed.
It was confirmed that the substance was 120lbs cannabis sativa. The cannabis was then compressed, sealed and lodged at the station.
The car that was found a short distance away from the substance was also lodged but will be released since there is not enough evidence to indicate that the weed was in the car since it was found on the street.
