The final of the King of Draughts National Competition is set for next Sunday July 7th at the National Gymnasium, Woolford Avenue.
Last Sunday during the playoff five players were qualified for the final. Floyd Cumberbatch from Linden with 39 point heads the table with former veteran and Guyana Games champion Wilfred Freeman followed closely with 37 points. President of the Association Mr. Jiaram is in the third spot with 29 points followed by Steve Bacchus on 28. The last qualifier was Lyndon Heywood who mustered 25 points.
Mr. Heywood is the only B class player to quality for the finals. Ulric Braithwaite, who is the latest B class player to be promoted to A, performed disappointedly, giving Heywood the edge.
The five players were given two weeks to practice since a grueling showdown is expected next weekend.
Surprise packages will be awarded to the top finishers. Games starts at 10:00am sharp and players are asked to be on time for the draw.
