Belvedere Primary defeated Fyrish Primary by 27 runs in the final of the Sueria Manufacturing Inc. Inter Primary School Windball Cricket Competition, organized by the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club and played at the Albion Community Centre Ground.
Belvedere Primary won the toss bated first and rattled up 63 for 3 off their allotted 5 overs with Faraz Moses hitting 31 and Javed Haniff chipped in with 17. In reply, Fyrish Primary was restricted to 36 for 3 with Nicolas Subramanie hitting 28 not out.
The competition was played on a round robin basis among the five Primary Schools within the Lower Corentyne area namely Gibraltar, Fyrish, Cropper, Albion Back and Belvedere Primary.
Earlier in the day, Belvedere Primary defeated Gibraltar and Albion Back to book their place in the final, while Fyrish Primary defeated Albion Back and Cropper Primary to secure their spot. There was also a win each for Gibraltar and Cropper Primaries. Belvedere Primary played unbeaten during the competition.
At the presentation ceremony, Human Resources Manager of the Albion Estate and President of the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club Vemen Walter commended the Schools for their participation. He extended special congratulations to Belvedere Primary for winning the competition. He mentioned that the Cricket Club will be holding its Cricket Academy in July, 2019 and urged all the young cricketers to enroll.
Walter also expressed gratitude to the Managing Director of Sueria Manufacturing Inc. Mr. Frank Sanichara, a former Albion cricketer for his continued partnership with the Club in sponsoring this important competition. He noted that over the years the competition has been used as part of the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club’s effort to attract young cricketers to the Club.
Also speaking at the presentation ceremony were Community Development Officer of Albion/Port Mourant Estate – Orvin Mangru and Sales Representative of Sueria Manufacturing Inc. – Mr. Yogeshwar Persaud.
The youths were urged to focus on their education and told that sports and education can go hand in hand.
Persaud thanked the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club for organizing the competition and disclosed that his company was very much delighted to be part of the competition and the development of youths. He also commended the Schools for their participation and congratulated Belvedere Primary for winning the final.
The winning team received a beautiful trophy and cash incentive, while the runner-up team also received a trophy and cash incentive.
Nicolas Subramanie of Fyrish Primary carted of the batsman trophy for scoring 80 runs. Dhanesh Parbudial of Albion Back Primary grabbed 7 wickets to cop the best bowler of, while Subramanie was judged the most valuable player of the competition for his runs and taking 2 wickets.
