East Demerara Football Association’s (EDFA) Dynamic FC and Botofago of Linden each scored three goals in contrasting wins yesterday at the National Training Center at Providence, as quarter-final play in the historic Guyana Football Federation (GFF)-KFC National Under-20 nationwide Independence Cup knockout tournament kicked off.
Play between Dynamic FC (offence) that are through to the semifinal round and New Amsterdam United, yesterday at the National Training Center.
Dynamic FC, which is coached by former national striker Dwain Jacobs, fired three unanswered goals past New Amsterdam United. NA United were competitive in the first half as both teams squandered golden opportunities to go ahead and it was until the 78th minute that the first Dynamic FC goal was buried. On target for the Golden Grove based club were Abguyl Henry, Shemar Dublin and Keon Williams.
In the other quarterfinal played yesterday, a stoppage time strike from Leon Jones allowed Botofago FC to edge East Bank Football Association’s (EBFA) Timehri Panthers. The first half of that feature clash at the NTC finished 1-0 in favour of Botofago after Andre Mayers had found the back of the net in the 42nd minute.
One goal each from Panthers’ Ernest McClean (66th) and Shannon Samnauth (72nd) allowed the EBFA side to take the lead for five minutes before goalkeeper Jamiane Kingston banged home the equaliser.
Today, Santos FC will tackle Potaro Strikers of Bartica, while arguably the most exciting clash of the entire tournament will see tournament favourites Fruta Conquerors FC pitted against Buxton United in the other quarterfinal.
