The two men who were in custody for the brutal robbery of a businesswoman and her daughter have been charged with two counts of arm robbery.
The two are Doodnauth Bissondial, called “Lil Budhan”, 21, of Coburg Street, Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice and Anthony Carter, 18, of New Street, Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice.
They appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court and were not required to plead.
They are accused of, on Tuesday June 11, last, breaking and entering the home and business place of Shakeela Sankar, 59, and her daughter, Razya Somar, 27, of 121 New Street, Cumberland Village, East Canje.
The two women were brutalized and robbed as the two men who wore masks escaped with a quantity of cash, jewellery, cell phones, tablets and other electronic gadgets.
The invasion occurred in broad daylight.
The police after conducting diligent investigation apprehended Bisssondial, who is well known to the authorities. He then implicated Carter. He also implicated another relative who acted as the lookout.
Bisssondial has also admitted to being involved in the burglary committed on May 2, last at the home of Hamza Khan, a goldsmith of Coburg Street, Cumberland. During that invasion nearly $500,000, including US$500, in cash, a laptop, two cellular phones, a Samsung tablet and several pieces of silver jewellery were stolen.
