The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a resident of Sand Hills, Berbice River. He was murdered.
Elvis Benedict, 40, a chainsaw operator, of Sand Hills, Berbice River, was reportedly injured by another resident of the said village, whom he identified before he died. The suspect was subsequently arrested.
The incident is said to have occurred between 17:00hrs on Tuesday 18 and 07:00hrs yesterday at Sand Hills, Berbice River.
Reports are that the man was last seen by one Ronald Singh, a resident of the area around 17:00 hrs on Tuesday, fixing a tractor. He was not seen again.
However about 07:00hrs, the following morning he was found alive by a truck driver with multiple injuries about his body, lying at the side of the road.
Benedict subsequently told his brother, Eron Benedict, that he may not live and he was injured by one Roy Glaston, a resident of Sand Hill, Berbice River.
The badly injured man was immediately taken by boat and ferried to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. The body arrived around 12:15hrs at the Hospital where it was examined and pronounced dead on arrival.
The police were informed and upon arriving at the Hospital the body was examined. A number of visible marks of violence were seen including lacerations to various parts of the body including the left lower back, the center of the back, the left hand and the left upper jaw. There were also multiple scratches and bruises and abrasions about the body.
The body is at New Amsterdam Hospital Mortuary awaiting a Post Mortem examination.
Glaston, 28, of the said village was subsequently arrested by residents of the area and brought to New Amsterdam where he was handed over to the police. He is in custody as investigation continues.
