The police in Berbice have reportedly broken up an emerging gang that was reportedly operating out of East Canje with the 21 year old prime suspect and leader of the gang, reportedly confessing to at least two of the robberies.
Doodnauth Bissondial, of Bristol Street, Cumberland, East Canje, has since named his alleged cohorts in the latest robbery which occurred last Tuesday at New Street, Cumberland, in which a business place was robbed.
During the robbery which occurred in broad daylight, two men armed with cutlasses barged into the business place and home of Shakeela Sankar, 59, and her daughter, Razya Somar, 27, of 121 New Street, Cumberland Village, East Canje. The two women were brutalized and robbed as the two mask bandits escaped with a quantity of cash, jewellery, cell phones, tablets and other electronic gadgets.
The elder woman reportedly received injuries to her face while her daughter was injured about her body. Two grandchildren who were at home with the women at the time were unharmed.
Acting on information the police visited the prime suspect home, but he was not found. The cops subsequently nabbed the suspect at his sister’s home where he would usually sleep.
During interrogation he revealed who his accomplices were and how they executed the robbery. He stated that the items were sold.
Acting on information the cops arrested another suspect at his home. The 18-year-old has denied being involved, in the robbery.
Another man, 17, who was said to be the lookout is still being hunted.
The man has also confessed to burglary which occurred at a Goldsmith’s home during May at Cumberland, East Canje.
The home of Hamza Khan was broken into and nearly $500,000, including US$500, in cash was stolen, along with a laptop, two cellular phones, a Samsung tablet and several pieces of silver jewellery.
Their vehicle that was parked below the living quarters was also vandalized. Some accessories were stolen.
