Commander of “E” Division, Linden Lord, has said that the police are currently investigating the matter of Regma Primary School pupil, June Alexander, who is hospitalized, and is in a comatose state, following an incident at her school on Monday.
“We’ve taken statements from the teachers and cleaners and we are putting these together, and we will be seeking legal advice on the matter,” the Commander said.
The child’s relatives are at their wits end and are very distraught, following the incident at the School which left ten-year-old June Alexander, reportedly brain dead.
According to the child’s grandmother, Sandra Sumner, her granddaughter was at school on Monday, when the incident occurred.
Sumner said that teachers at the school are saying that June fell and hit her head, but according to a doctor’s report, the injuries sustained are consistent with falling from “a height”, or being badly beaten.
She added that reports were made to the police that the child had been skipping, and had tripped on her shoe laces and fell. However the grandmother insisted that the child’s shoe had no laces.
“These teachers are lying and they are holding one head, because June shoes ain’t had no laces, and when the police went to the school, they couldn’t find the shoes.”
There are other conflicting reports, suggesting that the child had been running and fell; but the most damning report, indicates that the child was pushed down the stairs by another pupil, after she, June, had pushed the child!
According to Sumner, a child related to the Police that June was playing with another pupil on the school’s corridor, when June pushed the child.
A teacher reportedly told the child “to push June back”, and so the child push June straight down the stairs,” Sumner lamented tearfully.
The woman further related that her granddaughter was only taken to the hospital after she started convulsing, as efforts were being made to resuscitate her, at the school.
But the child subsequently slipped into a coma, and has not regained consciousness, she added.
Sumner said that a CT Scan was done. It showed that her granddaughter is brain dead. The procedure was done after she was transferred, from the Linden Hospital to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, the very afternoon.
The woman says that it is really hard on her daughter, Angela Hamilton, who has not worked since the incident, as she has to travel to Georgetown daily, to see June.
Hamilton who is a single parent, and works as a security guard, has seven other children to take care of.
A relative has meanwhile taken to social media, alleging that her niece had been suffering at the hands of a particular teacher, who often bullied her.
