Yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifta Avenue the second annual ExxonMobil Secondary Schools U-14 Football tournament was launched in the presence of Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Health, Glendon Fogeray, Director Chronic Disease Unit MoPH Dr Kavita Singh and Co-Director Petra Organisation Troy Mendonca.

According Petra representative Shaw Embrack, this year’s tournament is scheduled to commence with the march past from 11:00 hrs tomorrow at the MOE ground before Christ Church oppose Lodge Secondary and Plaisance orphanage face-off with North Ruimveldt Multilateral from noon.
“What we do, not only build the skill set of these youngsters, but we try to help their overall development,” Mendonca said.
Dr Singh not noted that 70% of death in Guyana is linked to a lack of physical exercise, drinking alcohol, smoking and unhealthy eating habits.
Fogeray noted that Sports and a Healthy life style make your life better and improves the development of bones, mental health and motor skills.
“This U-14 Football competition is very good but even recreational sports like playing cricket or Football on the street or walking briskly around your community are great ways to aid physical and Mental health,” said Fogeray.
The tournament will include 24 School teams and below are the first round fixtures.
