Popular Security Company, Sentinel Security Inc has renewed their sponsorship of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS Gregory Gaskin Memorial Berbice Sports Award for the sixth consecutive year. The sponsorship worth $120,000 would see the Club hosting of the prestigious award which is being hosted in memory of the late Gregory Gaskin, who died in a motorcycle accident and who served as the Chief Executive Officer of Cops Security Company before his untimely death. His widow, Noreen Seubarran-Gaskin, who now heads Sentinel Security, sponsors the Awards.
Asst Secretary/CEO Simon Naidu stated that under the 2019 Award Scheme, five awards would be shared out. They are Berbice Sportsman of the Year 2018, Berbice Sportswoman of the Year 2018, Sport Personality of the Year 2018, Association of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS is encouraging members of the public, Berbice Sports Associations, members of the Berbice Media, Schools, NGOs to submit recommendations to the Club’s office in writing or via email at [email protected]. A Special Committee headed by veteran Television News Editor and Sports Administrator Gregory Rambarran would select the Awardee based on their performances during 2018 in their respective disciplines, role model status and discipline.
The objective of the Award is to recognise and honour outstanding Berbicians who excel in the sporting arena, to provide positive role models to youths, to encourage persons involved in Sports to always strive for excellence and to promote the Say Yes to Sports Message to youths in Berbice. Additionally, the Club and Sentinel are keeping the memory and legacy of Gregory Gaskin alive. Gaskin was actively involved in motor racing and was an outstanding supporter of sports as an alternative to a life on the road. Ms. Noreen Gaskin, stated that she and Sentinel are very supportive of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS due to the outstanding work it is doing and noted the Award Ceremony has always been well organised while fulfilling all of its objectives.
Meanwhile on the 26th July, 2019, the Club and its ten cricket teams would also be hosting the 7th Edition of its Ansa Mcal Award of Excellence. Under this Award, outstanding Berbicians are honoured for their sterling contribution to Guyana in the fields of Health, Education, Culture, Sports and Community Development.
The Awardees are selected by the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS Cricket Teams and the Gregory Rambarran led Committee based on the recommendation received from the General Public. The Awardee should have been employed for a minimum of twenty years, made a contribution to the development of Guyana, been a positive role model and be willing to share their experience with the younger generation.
Naidu urged members of the Berbice public to submit nominations for persons who they feel have made outstanding contributions. The Deadline for the nomination process is the 10th July, 2019. Each Awardee of the Gregory Gaskin Memorial Berbice Sport Awards and the Ansa Mcal Award of Excellence would receive a trophy, medal, framed certificate, a collection of prizes and would be treated to a special luncheon.
