Professing his innocence though he was found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl, a pensioner has now been remanded to prison where he awaits sentencing for the crime.
A 12-person jury yesterday convicted George Robin, 67, of having sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old girl without her consent. The verdict was unanimous.
According to the indictment, the offence was committed on February 6, 2017.
Robin, who appeared visibly shocked at the announcement of the verdict, told trial Judge Brassington Reynolds that only God can judge the actions of man. Nevertheless, the pensioner was remanded to prison until June 25, when he will be sentenced to a term of imprisonment.
Appearing for the State was Prosecutors Lisa Cave and Seeta Bishundial.
This trial was heard in the Sexual Offences Court in Demerara.
