Just back from campaigning on the North American circuit and competing at the Under-23 Pan American Elite Road Championships in Mexico last month, Team Coco’s Jamal John topped the field to win the 90-mile senior race on Sunday last when the 4th annual Albert Rose Memorial Classic Cycling event took place.
Organised by the Linden Bauxite Flyers Cycle Club (LBFCC) and sponsored by the Rose Family, the race which had a loop start, commenced and ended at the Linden/Georgetown Bus Park, Republic Avenue in the Bauxite Mining Town.
Riders made their way to Linden Soesdyke Highway where they turned back at Silver Hills. Seniors traversed the course three (3) times, Veterans Under-45 did so twice whilst Veterans Over-45 along with the females and juveniles made the trek, once.
When the race was completed in 3:39:23, John was the first to cross the finish line followed by Curtis Dey of Trojan/PSL Cycle Club, Walter Grant-Stuart (Continental CC), Paul De Nobrega (KFC/Team Evolution), Michael Anthony (LBFCC
) and Ajay Gopilall (Trojan/PSL CC) closing out the top six. Gopilall was also the winner of the Junior category.
There was a clean sweep of the female category for the organising club with Clivecia Spencer ending first and Moreisa Gilbert, second.
In the Juvenile contest, Jonathan Ramsuchit of Trojan/PSL Cycle Club of Berbice was the winner and he was followed to the line by the LBFCC duo of Mark Lewis Jnr. and Elisha Rutherford.
The Veterans Under-45 race was won by Warren McKay of We Stand United Cycle Club ahead of Paul Choo Wee Nam (Team Alanis) and Stephen Fernandes (KFC/Team Evolution). And the Veterans Over-45 clash saw Ian Jackson of Flying Stars Cycle Club taking the top spot from Andrew Spencer (KFC/Team Evolution) and Junior Niles (Team Coco’s) in that order.
Cash prizes and trophies were handed out to the respective category winners and other top performers.
