The entire morning session of the tenth annual ‘GBTI Open’ Tennis tournament involving the Juniors was cancelled yesterday morning due to rain which left the Bank’s Lawn Tennis Court in Bel Air in an unplayable condition.
Participants were scheduled to engage in seven categories with matches starting from 9:00AM yesterday, but due to inclement weather, day one action did not commence until 2:30 PM when Simone Boucher was beaten by Kevon Simon and Alvin Dorris registered a 6-love win against Nicola Levan in the Novice division which started the day’s proceeding.
In a contest which commenced at 4:30PM, Rudy Grant
lost 6-2, 6-3 to David-Long in the Over-45 category in sunny conditions.
Played at the time on the second Court and watched by a fair size gathering, veteran Harry Panday was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by his much younger opponent Joshua Kelekyezi in the Men’s Open division. Some matches involving the senior players were set for last night and players will battle for supremacy in the Men’s and Ladies Singles, Men’s and Ladies’ doubles, Mixed Doubles, Over-35 and O-45 Singles, Novices Medley and Boys and
Girls Singles.
Tournament action continues today at 9:00AM to 2:00PM with matches among the juniors, while from 2:00 – 4:00PM the Novices battle each other before seniors take to the Court from 4:00 – 10:00PM. (Sean Devers)
