On Saturday next at the Ulster Hall in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Guyana’s most accomplished body builder, USA based Hugh Arlington
Ross will be representing the Golden Arrowhead seeking to fell the opposition in pursuit of his third Masters title at the NABBA Worlds 2019 Championship.
Ross, who will be celebrating his 60th birthday on June 26th next, is quietly confident of winning the Masters category for the third time in what would be his fourth championship. When he won the silver medal it was also in Belfast and that was 2014.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport, Ross who trains out of The Coliseum Gym, located at Jamaica Avenue and 101 Street in New York and Space Gym in Guyana, said that he last competed in 2015 when he won this said category in Malta.
“My aim in actual fact is to be the best that I possibly be within this time frame that I’ve allocated myself for the contest preparation and in this particular circumstance, from the time that I made the decision to compete to the actual contest, it would be a total of eight weeks. So, putting it in a nutshell I am striving to be the best that I can be in eight weeks time.”
Ross has also won the NABBA Mr. Universe Masters title and the US Overall Nationals which enabled him to compete at the Mr. Universe competition. Guyana’s most decorated body builder also has the distinction of winning the US Masters National Powerlifting title.
“It’s very unique that I have won both of those titles, the US Nationals in both powerlifting and bodybuilding.”
When asked by Kaieteur Sport if he is aiming to win, Ross responded: “I’ll be doing my homework and subsequently accept the decision of the panel of judges.”
