DEAR EDITOR,
Millions of Baha’is of all races and nationality in every country of the world will observe the passing of Baha’u’llah .
Early in the morning of May 29, 1892, i.e., eight hours after sunset, in the 75th year of His age, Baha’u’llah, the Founder-Prophet of the Baha’i Faith passed away.
All over the world Baha’is will be gathering in the early hours of today, May 29th, to pay their respects with prayers and selected Bahá’í Writings to commemorate the Anniversary of Baha’u’llah’s ascension. It is also one of nine holy days in the Baha’i calendar, where work should be suspended.
For almost 40 years Baha’u’llah suffered imprisonment and banishment, originally from His birthplace in Persia (Iran), to Baghdad, and then to the Ottoman cities of Constantinople, Adrianople, and then finally to the infamous prison city of Akka (Acre, Israel), where He was held in a cold and damp cell. In fact, Baha’u’llah was exiled and imprisoned for His teachings of love and unity towards all mankind.
In His own words He stated:
“That which the Lord hath ordained as the sovereign remedy and mightiest instrument for the healing of all the world is the union of all its peoples in one universal Cause, one common Faith.”
During the last years of His life, Baha’u’llah was held under house arrest in ‘The Mansion of Bahji,’ which is outside the prison walls of Acre (Akka).
The Shrine of Bahá’u’lláh is located within the precincts of the Mansion of Bahjí, and is considered to be the most sacred and holiest spot on earth for Bahá’ís and their friends.
Regards,
Rooplall Dudhnath
