May 24, 2019 Letters
As citizens, we ought to be very concerned that a few of our Ministers, Members of Parliament and many Senior Government Officials did not at any given time disclosed in writing their assets and liabilities to the prescribed authority, the Integrity Commission.
I read the letter that Mr. Kit Nascimento caused to be in the columns of our Daily Papers and his comments pertaining to this issue, he was right on the money.
Mr. Kit Nascimento, the Former Minister of Information is a Senior Public Relations Consultant and every time I hear his name, I always remember the time during which he used to do commentary on the Evening News programme, because he was fair and informative and unbiased. I would also remember Mr. Tony Vieira and the late Tommy Rhodes in his letter regarding this issue, he was his usual self.
On the other hand, I have also taken note of numerous occasions the Commission have been requesting these persons mentioned in my first paragraph, about their onus and responsibilities, names and designations were also mentioned.
I have known Mr. Ronald Bulkan since 1967 when he would come to Supenaam during the school holidays in company with his brothers and sisters, he did not write his General Certificate in English O’ Levels as yet, as a very disciplined lad then, and I am certain I can describe him by using the same or similar adjectives now. I read with great degree of interest the letter written by Mr. Bulkan, the Honourable Minister of Communities, that appeared in the Kaieteur News of Sunday, 19.05.2019 on page 4 and continued on page 7, under the caption “I have discharged the duties of my office with probity and fairness”.
I am sure a lot of us would understand and agree with the reason why this gentleman so far, was or is unable to honour his obligation to the Commission, but what about the many, many others. Are we to believe that they are having problems identical to what Mr. Bulkan is experiencing? While it may be both unethical and unprofessional for the bank to confirm or deny the Honourable Minister Mr. Bulkan statement in his letter, many people I am sure are impressed by his explanation.
