I read with interest a story in the media about a Jamaican woman who returned an undisclosed amount of cash to the police, which she reportedly found at an ATM machine.
For her act of honesty, she was rewarded 1.2 million Jamaican dollars from the company to which the money was subsequently returned.
There is one important lesson from this episode, which is that it pays to be honest. It is possible that the money could have been kept and put the woman in all sorts of trouble with the law.
The woman, however, opted to do the right thing and return what did not belong to her, for which she was rewarded financially. But at a more fundamental level, it is her character and integrity that will be remembered the most.
