The Softball Cricket competition organised by the Prime Minister Region 6 Representative Gobin Harbajan in collaboration with the Nan
d Persaud group Of Companies was successfully held recently at the No 56 ball field, Corentyne, Berbice.
Six teams participated in the competition namely Union (No 53 Village), N0 55, N0 57, N0 59, N0 60 and N0 71 Village and Unstoppable (combined team).
After a day of exciting cricket, Unstoppable and No 57 made it to the final which was played on a six over basis due to time constraints. In the final, Unstoppable were unstoppable as they skittled No 57 for a mere 26 runs. In reply they raced to 27 in 3.1.
The Man of the Match in the final was Ravi Lootawan from the Unstoppable team.
Unstoppable won the Nand Persaud Foundation Trophy and Cash Prize which was presented by General Manager of Nand Persaud Group of Companies Mr. Mohindra Persaud.
No 57 collected the runner up trophy from Global Access and cash incentive compliments of the Nand Persaud Foundation.
Kaieteur News Senior Staffer Leonard Gildharie travelled from Georgetown to be a part of the activity and contributed financially on behalf of the Company to the incentives won during the day.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony Mr. Mohindra Persaud had words of encouragement and appreciation for the initiative. He said that Mr. Harbhajan has done something good to organise such an activity, which he envisage will have a positive impact on the communities.
He said that the Company is always happy give back and be a part of anything that will make a positive impact on the Community, especially youths.
Gildharie, while making the presentation on behalf of Kaieteur News, stated that the Company was more than happy to join in the venture which they see as a good one.
Mr. Harbhajan praised the Nand Persaud Foundation and Mr. Persaud for their unstinted support and jumping on the idea as soon as he mentioned it. According to Harbhajan, the idea is not just to play cricket but to support youth enhancement in the community.
He said that from moving around he has seen and heard of a number of young people committing suicide, domestic violence and imbibing alcohol/drugs. He felt by making a start and taking the lead will help the youths to use their spare time to do something constructive.
He also had words of commendation for Kaieteur News and Globe Access. He was overwhelmed by the generosity of Kaieteur News who contributed financially and sent a senior representative from Georgetown to be a part of the day’s activity.
