As the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) for the double murder of a Campbellville Pandit and his son ended, the defendant is to make an appearance at the
High Court for his murder trial.
Yesterday, the PI was completed in the Providence Magistrate’s Courts when Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman ruled that there was sufficient evidence against the defendant, Orlando Douglas, for him to be convicted for the murders.
The defendant was on remand while the PI was being conducted.
Douglas, 30, of Campbellville, Georgetown was not required to plead to the two charges, which alleged that between July 7, 2018 and July 10, 2018 at Craig Street, Campbellville, he murdered the two men during the course of a robbery.
In handing down her decision, Magistrate Latchman stated that she is of the opinion that the prosecutor, Shellon Daniels, presented sufficient evidence against Douglas to aid with her ruling into the matter.
According to reports, Deonarine Liliah, a 61-year-old Pandit and businessman, and his 28-year old-son Gopaul Liliah, were found dead last July, in their Lot 25 Craig Street, Campbellville home, with multiple stabs wounds about their bodies.
The father and son were discovered after a tenant who lives downstairs made a report at the Kitty Police Station after neighbours complained about a stench coming from the upper flat of the home.
The bodies were subsequently discovered and an autopsy revealed that the victims had been stabbed 66 times.
Police reportedly recovered Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage, which showed a man jumping the western fence and entering the home, through the northern front door.
