School basketball is in full swing with the group stages of the Youth Basketball Guyana’s (YBG) National Schools’ Baketball Festival currently
underway at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) on Mandela Avenue with play in the under-18 category of East Coast Demerara/Georgetown regional zone.
On Friday, Government Technical Institute (GTI) made light work of Chase Academic Foundation (CAF) 46-22 in the feature of the four games played.
Israel Yaw was the man-of-the-match with a top double-double performance of 13 points, 18 rebounds, while receiving adequate support from Kyle Petrie who netted 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Stephan DeLeon and Jamal Nicholas had seven and six points respectively for the losers.
Earlier in the evening, President’s College got a walkover victory against St. Rose’s High.
In game two, The Bishops’ High School got past Saint Stanislaus College 48-31. Timothy Richmond top scored for Bishops’ with 14 points while Shamar Greaves (10 points) and Lamon Friday (nine points) contributed well during the 17 point win for their team.
Kadir Mustapha (12 points) and Thalenn Moore (10 points) were the main contributors for the losing Saints side.
In the third game of the day, Tyrese James (13 points, 7 rebounds) and Jether Harris (9 poinst 5 rebounds) spearheaded a 45-34 win for defending zone champions Marian Academy against the tardy Queen’s College team.
This tournament, which is sponsored by Edward B. Beharry& Company Ltd, National Sports Commission, Banks DIH LTD and Exxon Mobil, will continue with under-14 and girls’ development fixtures on May 24th and 25th.
