Attorneys involved in the no confidence appeals are anticipating the ruling in the historic matters.
Speaking to the media following the conclusion of the case on Friday, Attorney-at-law for the Opposition Leader, Anil Nandlall, expressed confidence in the submissions presented behalf of the team will suffice.
“Based on the exchanges between the bar and the bench, I am confident that our appeal will be allowed and that the no confidence motion will be declared to have been validly passed.
“That is why we placed emphasis on the consequential orders that will flow from that; winning the case is one aspect.
“I always knew that we would win. In fact, I believe this case should not have been filed in the courts in the first place.”
Attorney-at-law, Devindra Kissoon, also expressed confidence in the ability of the CCJ Bench to decode and determine issues raised in the constitutional matter.
“I am pleased with the Caribbean Court Justice’s quick grasp of the facts in law and issue and I am confident in the Court’s ability to come to a decision that is well reason that it fully appreciative of the law and culture surrounding the issue.” Kissoon added
Lawyers for the Government side declined to comment on the matter. Attorney General Basil Williams said that the lawyers reserved their comments until after the Court rules.
However, in his presentation before the CCJ, Williams told the Court that the elections between 2001 to 2015 inclusive had been generally considered to be free of any discord or controversy. The AG also referred to the Carter Formula, the execution of which came up for adjudication in a case brought by Zulfikar Mustapha, an executive member of the PPP and heard by the CCJ on Wednesday,.
The consolidated hearings for the cases involving Christopher Ram, Attorney General Basil Williams, Leader of the Opposition Bharrat Jagdeo and Joseph Harmon, Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Barton Scotland, Charrandass Persaud and Compton Herbert Reid garnered much attention from Guyanese at home and abroad.
