deals ever in the 79 year history of the BCB.
Yesterday, in the board room of the Guyana Chronicle Newspapers, Board President Hilbert Foster and Let’s Bet Sports Brand Manager Ian De Barros exchanged handshakes during the ceremonial hand over of the cheque valued at 1.1 million dollars.
Also sharing the head table at yesterday’s event were Let’s Bet Sports Assistant Brand Manager Joel Lee and Brand Ambassador, Rawle Toney.
Foster, whilst expressing profound gratitude to Let’s Bet for inking the partnership deal in less than a week after being approached, shared that the 100 Balls tournament would be played in four Internal Zones which would be followed by an overall championship with the four Zone champions.
“Teams in West Berbice, New Amsterdam/Canje, Lower/Central Corentyne, and Upper Corentyne would participate in four separate tournaments to decide the overall champions. Each tournament would have cash prizes and trophies.”
Among the West Berbice teams set to play are Blairmont Community Centre, Achievers, D’Edward and Cotton Tree Die Hard. Those in New Amsterdam/Canje would include, Rose Hall Canje, Young Warriors, Tucber Park, Guymine, Mount Sinai and the Mantal Hospital.
Among those from Lower/Central Corentyne are Albion, Rose Hall Town Bakewell, Kildonan, Fyrish, Courtland and Port Mourant whilst from Upper Corentyne, Scottsburg, Skeldon Titans, No. 72 All Stars, Dukestown Warriors and No. 64 Fighting Marines would contest.
It was further disclosed that due to the nature of the sponsorship, players under the age of 18 years would not be allowed to play while teams would be allowed a maximum of three first division players who are not debarred by the BCB.
“The BCB is quite good at organizing tournaments of this nature and the Berbice cricketing public loves this version of the game,” Foster boasted.
The main objectives of the tournament are to promote the game at the grassroots level; to develop inter-village rivalry and to allow older players the opportunity to play the game.
“I wish to reassure the management of Lotto that all of the tournaments would be well organised and would achieve all its objectives.”
The BCB boss also stated that the company would be well promoted in both Regions 5 and 6.
“On behalf of the Berbice Cricket Board, I would like to express gratitude to the Management and staff of Lotto/Let’s Bet Sports for coming on board with us. Your support would enable us to continue the remarkable transformation of Berbice cricket and for this, we would be forever grateful, Foster concluded.
Toney in brief remarks expressed delight in being able to partner with the BCB for such a huge tournament which would bowl off in the coming weeks.
For the year, the BCB has ran off some twenty (20) competitions and ever since Foster took over as leader, some 43 competitions have been organised, the board raising close to 17 Million in cash and kind.
Tournaments have been played at the Under-13, 15, 17, 19, 21, Female, Primary and Secondary School, Inter Zone, Second Division, Double Wicket and First Division levels. Numerous developmental programmes have also been held which has aided in the transformation of the general mood from gloom to total happiness, Foster opined.
