A 20-year-old woman is likely to be charged soon after she was allegedly nabbed at around 15.30 hrs Tuesday afternoon attempting to smuggle marijuana to her incarcerated fiancé.
The marijuana was concealed in washing soap.
According to Director of Prisons (ag), Gladwin Samuels, the suspect, Althea Douglas, was preparing to visit her fiancé, who is currently being held in the Holding Bay at the Lusignan Prisons, East Coast Demerara.
“Alert officers on duty conducted a detailed search on the soap and found the marijuana concealed therein. Police weighed the contraband which amounted to 19 grams. She has since been taken into police custody.”
Samuels warned that there are serious consequences for smuggling prohibited items into the prison.
