DEAR EDITOR,
I would like to substantiate most of the contents of a letter written by Mr. Romel Harinandan in reference to the mismanagement of Region Nine by the REO and irregularities in the Tendering system and awarding of Contracts. However, I would like to add my bit.
One of the so-called contractors who was given work at Mahdia when the same REO was stationed there and was recently awarded contracts in Region Nine refused to pay his employees monies amounting to over $400,000.00 for work carried out on previous contracts. A complaint was made to the previous REO and sitting Regional Chairman by letters signed by the persons affected but was ignored by those officials. This same contractor worked on unfinished contracts for the Region and his work had to be completed by other contractors designated by the Region as recently as last year.
Editor, I would not lay the blame squarely at the feet of the REO after all he is just capitalizing on the incompetence of others responsible for the Tendering process in the country and by extension the Government. What amazes me most is the inability of the Regional Chairman who is the head of the Region to put a halt to such occurrences. He also is incompetent.
It is rumoured that the REO was brought back to Region Nine to win votes, but if the recently held local Government election is anything to go by, Lethem is no longer a Coalition strong hold. Boat already gone a falls.
