The National Procurement and Tender Administration Board opened bids yesterday for a range of projects, most notably the Construction of a Warehouse Building for GRA, for which the Engineer’s Estimate exceeded the highest bid by a whopping $25 million.
Kaieteur News has noted complaints from several contractors, that some engineers attached to central government agencies and local government bodies publish inflated estimates for construction projects. In some cases, contractors have reported being offered a deal, so that engineers could benefit from kickbacks. If not intentionally inflated, then this would suggest that the engineers are incompetent.
Kaieteur News will continue to monitor these developments.
