In honour of the late proprietor of the Arokium Funeral Establishment, Mr. Phillip Arokium, a 50-mile Cycle Road race would be held this Sunday, May 12th. His daughter, Miss Pearl Arokium, Managing Director of the funeral establishment, handed the sponsorship cheque to Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) Coach and organiser Mr. Randolph Roberts, at the Lot 30 Philadelphia Street, New Amsterdam Office.
Ms Arokium stated that the family was pleased to host the event once again in her father’s memory and is happy to be associated with the FACC which has been doing a good job over the years.
Meanwhile, Coach Roberts expressed his gratitude to the business entity for honouring the late Parlour’s owner by way of a cycling event and to once again put their trust in the FACC.
The race will commence at 10:00hrs with a cruise around the town of New Amsterdam from in front of Arokium funeral Parlour, left into Republic road into Tacama turn into Stanleytown. The race officially starts when the cyclists cross Alexander Street to the Nand Persaud Rice Milling Complex at No36 Village, Corentyne before turning back to finish at Main and Alexander Streets, New Amsterdam.
Prizes will be awarded to the first eight finishers, first three veterans, top three juveniles and top three females. The first three FACC riders to cross the finish line will also be given prizes. There will also be ten sprint prizes up for grabs. The prizes will be presented to the winners by the Managing Director and relatives immediately after the race.
The race is expected to attract some of the country’s top cyclists including Romello Crawford, Balram Narine, Andre ‘Padlock’ Greene, Michael Anthony, Ralph Seenarine, Paul DeNobrega, Junior Niles, and Paul Choo-e-Nam, among others.
