Despite some showers earlier in the week, the course at the Lusignan Golf Club was in excellent shape as golfers battled for supremac
y in the Assuria Insurance tournament which was contested yesterday.
Following some intense rivalry in hot conditions, Philbert London emerged as the overall winner with a net score of 69.
Richard Hanif turned in a commendable performance to win the best gross title with a score of 81.
Hanif also won the 0-9 flight with a score of 81 gross and 72 net, ahead of Patrick Prashad who scored 84-75.
The 10-19 flight was closely contested and Ayube Subhan with a score of 84/69 edged Dr. Joaan Deo 84/70.
London was once again in winners’ lane as he won the 20-28 flight, scoring 94/69, while Jeremy Fernandes took the runner up spot with a score of 94/70.
Max Persaud won the longest drive prize, while Patrick Prashad captured the Nearest to the pin title.
President of the Lusignan Golf Club, Aleem Hussain congratulated the winners and thanked the sponsors. He
added that they are on track for one of the busiest seasons in the club’s history, adding that it will set a new record that will be tough to beat. Hussain stated that this is due to the renewed interest in the game by their corporate sponsors such as MACORP who has started to erect a lighted driving range at the facility which he said is scheduled to open in a few weeks time. This he said has started to generate more interest in the sport. He expressed gratitude to the media for their input.
General Manager of Assuria Insurance Yogindra Arjune lauded the LGC for a well organised tournament and pledged their continued support.
He said that they want to keep giving back to those who would have supported their company over the years. (Zaheer Mohamed)
