The visiting NY Tri State team from USA ended their tour to Guyana on a high when they defeated a DCC without nine of their senior players, by eight wickets in the final of the GCA’s NY Tri State 50-over U-19 tournament at Everest yesterday.
DCC, the only team to beat the Americans in the preliminary round, were bowled out for 96 in 26.3 overs as only Ezekiel Wilson (22), Jaden Campbell (20) and Osafa Giddings (19) passed 15 for the Queenstown side.
Tamesh Persaud 3-16 and Adil Shivakumar 3-17 were the main wicket-takers for NY Tri State who replied 1
00-2 in 19 overs with Skipper and Player-of-the-Match Sanjay Stanley hitting four fours and six in his unbeaten 41, while sharing in an unbroken 40-run third with Chaitauja Parwal (16).
The pair joined forces at 60-2 when Saiteja Mukkamalla (26) was removed after adding 44 with Stanley (who ended the contest with a boundary back over the head Wilson) for the second wicket after Ishaan Bansal (3) fell at 16-1.
The hallmark of Stanley’s innings was his impeccable timing as the ball sped across the lush green and lighting fast outfield, while Parwal played the support role on the straw coloured track on a day blessed with brilliant sunshine.
A last-minute switch from GCC to Everest and seepage under the covers from overnight rain caused a three-hour and 40-minute delay despite the excellent work of the ground staff and DCC won the Toss and surprisingly opted to bat on a track with moisture.
Campbell got off the mark with an inside edge for four before executing an imperious cover drive and an elegant tuck off his legs for boundaries in the first over from Abhayjit Khangura before Brandon Jaikaran (4) was dismissed by Vedant Parwal, the brother of Chaitauja, to leave DCC on 21-1.
Skipper Sanjay Stanley, flanked by Tamesh Persaud (left) and Adil Shivakumar were the top performers for NY Tri State in yesterday final at Everest.
DCC were missing seven players who were playing in the Demerara Inter-Association U-19 competition for Georgetown against West Demerara at Wales and slipped from 45-1 to 96 all out when Campbell was run out by a direct hit as they lost wickets at regular intervals.
There was live streaming of the game for viewers around the World. (Sean Devers)
