DEAR EDITOR,
Much has been said over the past few weeks on the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) restructuring and the dark cloud that staff have been placed under with this exercise. To date the staff has not been notified about this exercise and only bits and pieces have been filtering through informal channels. This adds more controversy to this whole exercise as it seems to be a ghost witch hunting exercise too scared to break it to staff much less the public and stakeholders. GFC is a public entity and not a cake shop so everyone must know to ensure all decisions are transparent and above board.
The staff needs to know who is leading this mission, is it a one-man Clayton Hall army? What is the genius of this, has there been a gap assessment or this thing is pull from the wind for ulterior motives? What is the TOR of this one man band? Why the GFC staff union has not been notified, Why the GFC workers representative is not involved?
It’s a whole secrecy and uncertainties are agitating staff. We, the staff, demand that this project be put on hold, let the Minister or the Board come and address us and tell us something what is going on and we want to be involved. We are 400 staffers committed to the forest sector, our government and country, and to be treated like this is embarrassing, shameful and shows the Minister, the Board, government etc. total disrespect for the staff of GFC and working class people of this country. Other sister agencies are not treated like this and we demand better…better must come.
The time to act is now!
With regards,
On behalf of concerned staff
