“You have made us proud with your outstanding performance for Guyana and has proven beyond any doubt, that the Ancient County still produces outstanding cricketers to follow in the legacy of Rohan Kanhai, Basil Butcher, Joe Solomon, Roy Fredericks and Alvin Kallicharran. Your performance along with Isaiah Thorne, put to rest the false claim by a few that cricket in Berbice is a farce. The entire county, the Berbice Cricket Board and your club, Port Mourant Cricket Club are very proud of you and as such, we have the greatest honour to honour you.” Those were the words of Hilbert Foster, President of the Berbice Cricket Board.
The Berbice Cricket Board honoured Guyana Under-15 opening batsman Rampertab Ramnauth for his outstanding performance in the recent Cricket West Indies Under-15 Tournament in Antigua. The Berbice Cricket Board with support of the ten cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, Ms and Mr. Vickram Seubarran, President of the Port Mourant Cricket Club presented Ramnauth with a trophy, framed certificate, cricket medal and a financial gift.
Foster urged the promising batsman to use his recent performance as a stepping stone to a successful career. He urged the attentive youth to remain humble, to remember people like Leslie Solomon and Vickram Seubarran who have played major roles in his career. The Berbice Cricket Board President also spoke on the importance of education, personal discipline and faith in God. The BCB President stated that the BCB would continue to invest in every one of its players, while making sure that they have enough cricket to play at every level. Berbice, he stated has legendary status in the cricketing world and his administration was working hard to uphold the high standard.
Ramnauth in an invited comment stated that he was proud to be honoured by his County Board and even prouder to be an ambassador of Berbice. He acknowledged the contribution of the Port Mourant Cricket Club and persons like Vickram Seubarran, his coach Leslie Solomon and his parents in the development of his career.
Meanwhile, the BCB President and his Executives took the opportunity to meet with Representatives of First and Second Division Teams in Berbice to discuss some major upcoming Cricket Tournaments especially at the 50-Overs First Division and Second Division 100 Balls and 40-Overs levels. Rules for all the Tournaments were agreed on including walkovers, forfeiting of the toss, uniforms, provision of snacks among others were discussed and agreed on. The President and his Executives also updated the Clubs on the current status of Berbice Cricket including sponsorship, ongoing tournaments, upcoming developmental programmes and the Award Ceremony. Foster also urged the Clubs to get themselves in order to take advantage of the opportunities being provided by his administration. Clubs, he also disclosed, would benefit from donations of cricket gears, balls, scorebooks, water pitchers and white T/Shirts.
