Watched by a handful of die-hard Boxing fans on a day Christians believe that Jesus rose from the dead, last Sunday Evening’s U-16 and Juniors Boxing Championships at the National Gymnasium was used to prepare the young pugilists for the Caribbean Schoolboys & Junior Championships.
President of the GABA, Steve Ninvalle said that Sunday evening’s Championships would be very important for Guyana’s preparation for the Caribbean Championships.
“The competition in this year’s Caribbean School boys & Juniors’ tournament is expected to be fierce since the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico who, along with Cuba, are considered the powerhouses in Latin America Amateur Boxing, have been invited to match gloves with their other Caribbean counterparts,” Ninvalle had pointed out.
Sunday Evening’s Card should have seen bouts involving from Boxers from Pocket Rocket from Linden, Essequibo Gym, Rose Hall Jammers from Berbice, Forgotten Youth Foundation, Young Achievers and Harpy Eagles.
Eleven fights, including four exhibition bouts, were scheduled with the Rose Hall Jammers and Harpy Eagles not participating.
