Winners strike a pose with the Sponsor. From left: Roy Cummings; ‘Max’ Persaud, Clifford Reis, Mrs Ganpat, Mr. Hardeo ‘Curry’ Ganpat, Club President Aleem Hussain, Minister Ronald Bulkan, and Club Captain Chatterpaul Deo.
He did it again! Veteran Clifford Reis, who has been in the Winners’ Row regularly over the past 3 months, continued his winning drive as he led the competition to emerge winner in his Flight and overall Champion of the Global Auto Spares inaugural golf tournament on Saturday last at the Lusignan Golf Course. Noticeably, rookie Eureka Giddings registered her entry in the Winners’ Row placing a definite second after Champ Reis.
The Grounds were in fine condition, and the new LGC member and elegant Owner and CEO of Global Auto Spares, Hardeo ‘Curry’ Ganpat and his charming wife were on hand to congratulate the winners and express their delight in supporting the Lusignan Golf Club. Ganpat’s long intention to become a member of the Lusignan Golf Club was pushed into reality through his friend David Harry. His company, Global Spare Parts of 19 Annandale Public Road (just outside Lusignan), East Coast Demerara, Tel: 592-621-9058 or 592-664-4515, has been in the Auto Spare Parts business for over a decade and has rescued many a motorist in need of hard-to-get quality spare parts at great prices. Global Auto Spares also specialises in towing and removal of vehicles of all types and can be counted on to provide excellent response time and service. Considering business as a pleasant service to his customers, Curry, as the CEO is more familiarly known, indicated that he was pleased to be involved in this arena of sports.
Meanwhile CEO of Banks DIH, Clifford Reis made full advantage of the conditions of the day to maintain his great performance. Tying for 4th with Guillermo Escarraga on a net 68 in the Saj Rice tournament of February 9th, after a tie for 1st by three golfers with net 67 – Pur Persaud, Anand Persaud and Satrohan Tiwari – Clifford seemed determined to let his Clubs do better each time around. He emerged 1st (72/25) in the Trophy Stall tournament of Feb 16th, 1st(68/25) in the Robert & Ravi tournament of March 16th, and 2nd(69/25) in the A&R Jiwanram Printery tournament of April 13th. So his performance at the Global Spares tourney is a continuing story.
The tournament was played in 2 flights. Winners in the 0 – 14 flight were: Aleem Hussain (70/10) – 1st; and Roy Cummings (74/12) – 2nd. In the 15 – 28 flight, winners were: Clifford Reis

(64/26) – 1st; Eureka Giddings (71/28) – 2nd; Shanella Webster (74/15) – 3rd.
This was a remarkable performance from rookie Giddings who has been diligently applyinmg herself to improve her play and had competed well, indicating much promise in the Guyana Open of 2018.
In the special awards area, Minister Ronald Bulkan came out of a long absence to provide an excellent drive and win the Nearest The Pin (some 6ft) prize. Parmanand ‘Max’ Persaud also came to the fore in his unique area of the Longest Drive, being one of the Club’s golfers with a huge drive – he recorded a 310 yards drive! Club President Aleem Hussain took away two prizes, obtaining the Best Gross for the day, along with his flight win. The overall Best Net score, was offered by Clifford Reis who was consequently the Champion for the day’s tournament.
Meanwhile, a packed and exciting series of tournaments are set for the next few weeks at the Lusignan Golf Club, starting with the Assuria Insurance Companies inaugural Open Golf Tournament on Saturday, April 27th at 12:30 p.m., to be followed each weekend by a tournament sponsored by MTV, RRT, Banks DIH, Torginol Paints, Macorp, El Dorado, Kissoons and a grand AMCHAM Open on June 15th.
In the spirit of generosity and rejoicing of the Easter Season, LGC in partnership with the Shafura Hussain (Charitable) Foundation of Albouystown and New Trend Auto’s Rudy Ramalingum, began distributing kites to children in the Albouystown community. President Hussain indicated that some 200 kites would be given over the period Easter Saturday to Tuesday to kids in the Albouystown community and at the Lusignan Grounds during the kite flying excitement that normally takes place there on Easter Monday and Tuesday.
